09/10/2010 - The Twin Cities is blessed to have a group of true innovators making a difference in our recycling business at the turn of the 21st century: Eureka Recycling.  Eureka Recycling is being recognized as conservation champions by Conservation Minnesota because they are innovators making sure that quality recycling is happening in what is often a rough-and-tumble world of waste business, not unlike the creamery business at the turn of the previous century.

09/01/2010 - Every once in a while, I pick up Go Green, Save Green by Nancy Sleeth to get ideas on how to conserve energy, water, and other resources.  Today, I found the section on work where she provides a number of good suggestions to reduce our impact (as well as a couple of “are-you-serious?” suggestions).  According to Seeth, “the typical office worker uses a quarter of a ton of materials in a year, including ten thousand pieces of copy paper”.

08/24/2010 - What is the easiest, most cost-effective way to maintain significant water resources in our state?  Conservation.  Before you sigh and ask me to stop being the green police, hear me out.  I realize water has many beneficial uses and I use it every day – personal hygiene and basic household uses are high on my priority list.   But many things we do with treated drinking water can be a little silly.

07/30/2010 - The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has announced the 2009-10 winners of the Governor’s Awards for Pollution Prevention.  The 19-year-old award program honors superior environmental achievement by Minnesota businesses, nonprofits, government and institutions.

07/26/2010 - Beginning Oct. 1, all health care facilities will be subject to full enforcement of hazardous waste regulations, including the possibility of financial penalties for noncompliance.
